Early voting ends Saturday, March 22, 2025

It's Open Municipal Primary Election season, and you can vote early at the Joseph S. Yenni Building, 1221 Elmwood Park Blvd, Suite 502, in Harahan starting Saturday, March 15, 2025 through Saturday, March 22, 2025. Lottery Registration for LA Fortify Homes Program Grants Opens 2/12/2025

Old Jefferson addresses are in the qualifying area, "LA Coastal Zone" which means Old Jefferson residents that meet the specified criteria are eligible to register for the next round of Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) grants, a program of the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Grant recipients will be selected randomly using a lottery system. This is an opportunity to win a $10,000 grant towards a Fortify Roof. There are up-front expenses for people who win the grant, for example: hiring a FORTIFIED Evaluator which can cost several hundred dollars.

Finally, A Dakin Street Off-Ramp from Earhart!

Last evening, members of OJCA attended the rescheduled Town Hall Meeting at the Yenni Building.  The sponsor was State Senator District 9 Cameron Henry and Louisiana State Representative Laurie Schlegel. Special guest was Louisiana Insurance Commissioner, Tim Temple.  Also featured was District 02 Engineer Scott Boyle of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

What the TIF! The Jefferson Highway Economic Development District

During the October 16, 2024 Jefferson Parish Council Meeting (East Bank), Councilman Deano Bonano said that he would hire a traffic consultant to work directly with OJCA to address the unaddressed traffic issues in the Ochsner-funded traffic study (specifically, the residential streets surrounding Ochsner main). Bonano said that the OJCA neighborhood is in special taxing district where a percentage of sales tax generated in the area is set aside for public infrastructure projects. He said the fund has about 3 million, and he will use the money to build whatever is needed, e.g. turning lanes, traffic lights, etc., to mitigate traffic concerns as the new Ochsner structures are built and go into business (and 1,000 more cars are traveling through Old Jefferson during rush hour).
