During the December 11, 2024 parish council meeting, Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng made the following announcement --
Recycle your natural Christmas trees! They will be diverted from landfills to protect wetland habitat and fight coastal erosion.
It must be a natural tree -- not an artificial tree. The tree cannot be flocked, painted, have lights, garland, tinsels, ornaments, tree stands, or plastic bags on the tree.
There are two ways you can recycle your natural Christmas tree:
You drop off! Saturday, January 4, 2025 through Tuesday, January 14, 2025
Bring your tree to the David Drive (400 David Drive, Metairie, LA 70003) or Lapalco Boulevard (6440 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072) drop-off sites.
You put it on the curb the evening of Wednesday, January 8, 2025
Put the natural tree curbside the evening of Wednesday, January 8. The tree will be picked up January 9th, 10th, or 11th. It will be picked up in a separate truck, and it is not part of the regular pickup.
